On Sunday, on February 5th, two of the volunteer staff at H2O, Naw Taya Phaw and Ko Sein Myint, were wed! As I mentioned in previous posts, I was asked to be the Maid of Honor (yeah, I still don't get it). The night before they were married, we had Phaw Phaw over with some other girls and had a little bridal shower for her. We ate, played games and gave her advice on marriage! It was a lot of fun and she enjoyed the little break from all of the hustle from the wedding preparations. The wedding was conducted in Burmese so I really had no clue what was going on! I never knew when to take her flowers from her! The wedding was a mixture between western style and Karen. I wore a traditional Karen dress and she wore a western style dress made of material that had a Karen pattern. Just before we went out to go to the church, they put this mini veil on me.... now I looked like a junior bride! Anyway, it's what they wanted and that's what matters right! He wore a regular suit. The order that we walked down the isle was a bit different and they do not have a lot of our traditions such as seating parents, runner for the isle, unity candle, communion during the wedding, and things like that. The cake was on the stage in the church and they cut it as part of the ceremony. They did not feed it to one another or cut the whole thing up at that time. They had the signing of the wedding certificate as a part of the ceremony, but me nor the best man signed! Family signed as witnesses, lol. There was no formal reception, but food was provided. Most people left after eating (just like a normal church service on Sunday). I have included 2 pictures, enjoy!
